The Kinks In Mono The Kinks In Mono
Plenty has already been written about The Kinks and reviewing each album would only duplicate what has been written many times before. The influence of their music alone would be enough to fill a book. So for this review, I’ll stick to ‘The Kinks In Mono’ boxed set as an item.

This boxed set comprises of The Kinks first 7 albums, 3 discs of singles, eps and bonus tracks and a ‘Meet The Kinks’ pop annual with rare photographs and other memorabilia,  all packaged together in a Dansette style box.

Most of the musical content is already easily available and although these particular recordings are ‘in mono’, as good as they sound, there is very little difference to these and stereo versions of the tracks if you compare them using the ‘mono’ setting on your hi fi amp……..I tried, so little in fact, I’m sure most people wouldn’t notice.

What this 'In Mono' boxed set offers is a great selection of music from a band who wrote some classic songs, re-packaged with a few added extras that may be of interest to die-hard fans or people who have only recently discovered The Kinks.

If the bonus tracks and book are of little interest to you, then all of the albums can be found at online stores for less than the price of this boxed set and if you want to hear them in mono, with a bit of hunting around, the original vinyl 12 inch albums can also be found relatively easily. Although getting hold of an original Dansette record player is slightly more costly if you want to hear the music as it would have sounded back in the 60’s when the albums were first released.
I wonder what happened to mine?
